Can’t we rely on governments to enforce and regulate work conditions?

In an ideal world, governments would do so. However, brands specifically choose suppliers in poorer countries with weaker labour laws or little to no enforcement.

Why are brands responsible for factory working conditions? What should they be doing?

Brands don’t directly hire factory workers. So why do we target brands when they weren’t directly involved in a violation? Global brands strategically outsource their manufacturing to other companies to cut costs and evade responsibility in terms of working conditions or pollution.

Where can I buy 'clean' clothes? Are they more expensive?

First of all, your actions as an engaged citizen count more than your wallet. The best way to support garment workers and change the industry is by raising your voice.

What are the issues plaguing fashion?

The garment industry has long been infamous for its unethical practices and sweatshops, but with the development of (ultra) fast fashion, it has developed into one of the most harmful industries in terms of workers’ rights and the destruction of the environment.
